What is a Baseboard?

A baseboard is a type of molding that is installed at the bottom of a wall where it meets the floor. It is also known as a skirting board or a base molding.

Baseboards serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Functionally, baseboards help to protect the wall from damage caused by furniture, vacuum cleaners, and other household items that may come into contact with the wall. They can also help to conceal gaps between the wall and the floor, creating a more finished and polished look.

Aesthetically, baseboards can help to enhance the overall appearance of a room by adding architectural interest and defining the transition between the floor and the wall. Baseboards are available in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials, such as wood, MDF, vinyl, or plastic. They can be simple or ornate, depending on the design style of the room.

Baseboards are typically installed by attaching them to the wall with adhesive or nails. They are often installed at the same time as other moldings such as crown molding or chair rails, in order to create a cohesive and finished look.
