What is a Soffit?
A soffit is a term used in construction and architecture to refer to the underside of a building element, such as a roof overhang, eave, or archway. It is the exposed surface that extends horizontally from the top of a wall or the bottom of a structural component, creating a finished and often decorative appearance.
Soffits are commonly found on the exterior of buildings, where they provide a transition between the walls and the roofline. They can also be used on the interior, particularly in kitchens, where they are installed beneath cabinets or above countertops to cover the area between the upper cabinets and the ceiling. 
Soffits serve several purposes. They can provide ventilation for the attic or crawlspace, allowing air to flow and prevent moisture buildup. They also act as a barrier, protecting the underlying structure from weather elements and pests. Additionally, soffits can enhance the aesthetic appeal of a building by hiding unsightly structural elements, electrical wiring, or plumbing.
